Scott Logic Technology Consultants
Scott Logic is not a typical technology consultancy. Founded over twenty years ago, the business has grown to around 450 people while remaining founder-owned, deliberately independent and committed to a set of values that sit at some distance from the corporate, profits-first model that dominates much of its sector.
The consultancy specialises in engineering custom software solutions for complex industries — financial services, public sector and energy — hiring exclusively at the top of the technical market and maintaining a reputation for quality over volume. It's a business that has built genuine authority in its field while remaining, by design, human in scale and culture.
The existing brand had served that journey. But as Scott Logic matured and expanded into new sectors, the identity and messaging needed to catch up with where the business actually was — and where it was heading.
The problem with the existing brand
The original visual identity had been shaped by Scott Logic's early focus on financial services. It looked, the brief acknowledged plainly, like it could belong to one of the firms it was serving. That had perhaps made sense at the outset — credibility by association — but it no longer reflected who Scott Logic actually was.
The existing tagline — Altogether Smarter — had also run its course. It gestured towards intelligence without capturing the particular quality that made Scott Logic worth choosing: the combination of deep technical rigour and a genuinely collaborative, grounded way of working. The business wasn't just smart. It was expert and approachable in the same breath — a combination that's rarer than it sounds in the consultancy world and worth communicating precisely.
The brief also came with a clear instruction about what to avoid. The pattern of dark, simple fonts paired with a punctuation mark in a bright colour — shorthand for a certain tier of tech consultancy — was everywhere among Scott Logic's larger competitors. The refreshed identity needed to differentiate rather than assimilate.
The approach
The project worked within Scott Logic's existing visual framework rather than replacing it. With over twenty years of brand equity and an established reputation, continuity mattered. Clients, partners and employees had a relationship with the existing identity — the task was to modernise and sharpen it without creating the sense that a different business had emerged overnight.
Typography was refined to feel more contemporary and considered. The identity system was tightened to work more consistently across the digital channels and office environments where Scott Logic's brand lives day to day. The overall direction moved the visual identity away from financial services conventions and towards something that felt more distinctly its own — authoritative without being corporate, technical without being cold.
The tagline
Finding the right words for a business like Scott Logic required understanding not just what the company does, but what makes it meaningfully different from the competitors it shares a market with.
The answer was already there in how the business described itself: expert enough to tackle the most technically demanding projects in complex industries, and human enough that clients actually enjoyed working with them. Those two qualities — the technical and the relational — are often treated as being in tension. Scott Logic's culture suggested they weren't.
Expertly technical, reassuringly human.
The tagline captures that duality directly and honestly. It speaks to the heads of engineering and technology who make the buying decisions — people who need to know they're getting the very best technical capability, and who have usually experienced enough consultancy relationships to understand how much the human side matters too. The word reassuringly does particular work: it acknowledges that hiring an external technical partner carries risk, and answers that concern without being defensive about it.
Words from the client
“I commissioned Sarah to design our new logo. After finding her through a Google search, we had several calls where she took the time to really get to know us as a company and what we want to be known for. I loved the Trello board and the steps she took us through, and the new logo and taglines she designed for us have been very well received. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking to develop/refresh their brand.”
The rollout
The refreshed identity was applied across print, digital and campaign materials — giving Scott Logic a more contemporary and coherent visual presence across the touchpoints the business relies on. The work was carried out with the care that a twenty-year-old brand deserves: evolutionary rather than disruptive, and attentive to the equity that had been built up over time.
A broader relationship
Separately from the brand evolution, Studio Creates also supported Scott Logic's social media output across a five-month period — stepping in to fill a gap in the team while the business found the right permanent candidate for the role. That strand of the relationship reflects a broader truth about how we work with established businesses: sometimes the most useful thing a creative partner can do is show up practically and keep things moving during a period of transition.
That work will be covered in its own case study.
What it adds up to
Scott Logic now has a brand identity and messaging that reflects where the business actually is — not where it started. The tagline gives the consultancy a clear, distinctive position in a market where most of the language sounds the same. The visual identity carries the authority of two decades of reputation while feeling contemporary enough to take the business into its next chapter.
For a founder-owned business committed to growing on its own terms, that clarity of positioning matters. It signals to the right clients — and to the right potential hires — exactly what kind of company Scott Logic is and why that's worth something.
